I Finally Played Souls and Habby Needs to Go to Jail

I was casually scrolling through TikTok the other day, minding my own business, when I was bombarded by ads for a game called “Souls”. After finally downloading the game I can safely say… this game has committed serious “crimes” against my free time, my productivity, and maybe even my sanity.

The gaming studio that released this game, Hubby, will hear from our lawyers soon!

Disclaimer: This blog post was created with humor. I downloaded the game, I played the game and I seriously love it. That’s why I decided to create this blog post. Enjoy!

Who Is Habby?

Habby is a game development studio based in Singapore, founded in 2018 by Stefan Wang. If you’re into mobile games, there’s a good chance you’ve already run into some of their work—especially since they’re the creators of Archero, the hit game that pulled in millions of players with its fun mix of simple controls and tough, rogue-like levels.

Habby

From the beginning, Habby’s goal has been to make games that are both easy to get into and hard to put down. They know how to hook you without forcing you to spend money every step of the way, which is why players respect them so much. After Archero, they continued with popular games like Survivor.io, which offers a fresh take on zombie survival without getting overly complicated.

With Souls, Habby is at it again, this time bringing us a dark fantasy world full of strategy and intense battles. They know just how to mix things up to keep players engaged and coming back for more. So, yes, they might deserve “jail time” for making games this addictive, but Habby’s approach to game design has earned them a loyal fanbase, a solid reputation, and a top spot in mobile gaming!

Now that you know what Habby is all about here’s a breakdown of what makes this game so addictively “dangerous” that it might just deserve a jail sentence.

1. The Art That Lures You In

The first offense? Souls is just too beautiful to resist. Habby has crafted a dark fantasy aesthetic that feels as rich as it is haunting. From its rich color palette to its distinct character designs, Souls transports you into a world that’s both eerie and gorgeous. Every dungeon feels like a scene straight from a gothic fairytale. And just when you think you’ve seen the best of it, another level opens with fresh, sinister environments.

2. The Combat System: Easy to Learn, Hard to Master

If you thought this was just another mobile RPG, think again. Souls has a deceptively simple combat system that quickly escalates in complexity. At first, the turn-based strategy and character abilities seem pretty straightforward. But as enemies start hitting harder and becoming more unpredictable, the game forces you to think on your feet, mixing dodges, timing, and special abilities in a way that keeps you glued to your screen. I found myself replaying fights just to perfect my timing and strategy—another reason I’m accusing Souls of stealing hours I didn’t even realize I was spending.

3. Characters and Customization: A Collector’s Trap

In Souls, each character brings unique strengths, skills, and abilities that create endless customization possibilities. But the game doesn’t stop there; there’s an entire collectible aspect to building a team, leveling up your heroes, and experimenting with different combinations. I’ll admit, I may have spent more time than I’d like to say obsessing over which characters to prioritize. It’s the kind of in-game depth that keeps you coming back again and again, just to try one more combination.

4. Rogue-like Elements: The Gateway to Addiction

At its core, Souls is a rogue-like game, meaning that every run through its levels feels like a new experience. This unpredictability makes it hard to stop once you’ve started. Just as you feel like you’re getting a handle on things, a new level will throw in surprises that keep you adapting and strategizing in real time. Habby knew what they were doing here—they designed Souls to be endlessly replayable, and it’s as addicting as it sounds.

5. Monetization: Surprisingly Balanced

One of the most surprising things about Souls is how it handles in-app purchases. The game is free-to-play, and while there are opportunities to spend real money, they don’t feel obligatory. You can progress at a good pace without feeling forced to pay, which is almost unheard of in many mobile games. This fairness is almost suspicious. It’s as if Habby knows that once you’re hooked, you’ll keep coming back, with or without spending a dime.

6. A Story That Hooks You

The storyline in Souls isn’t just an afterthought—it’s surprisingly engaging, weaving lore and character backgrounds into the gameplay. As you progress through the levels, you uncover more about the world and its inhabitants, which adds another layer to the game. It’s hard to explain, but Souls makes you want to dig deeper and understand the “why” behind the world’s darkness. By the time you’re halfway in, it feels personal.

Final Verdict: Souls is Guilty as Charged

Souls by Habby

Souls is an addictive experience that makes it nearly impossible to put down. Habby has struck gold with a game that combines beautiful visuals, engaging strategy, deep customization, and fair monetization. But beware: once you’re in, there’s no going back. Souls will take up residence on your phone—and possibly in your mind.

So, does Habby need to go to jail? Well, maybe that’s a bit much. But the makers of Souls are certainly guilty of creating one of the most engaging mobile RPGs of the year. Proceed with caution… because once you start playing, you’ll find it very hard to stop.
